As many of you may have already seen on social media, our coppery titi monkeys welcomed a new arrival in November 2025, and we are now delighted to reveal that the baby is female, named Poppy — a fitting choice as she was born on Remembrance Day.
Poppy lives in the Tropical House with proud parents Izzy and Juanito, and siblings Ember and Milo. She is already winning hearts with her tiny size, bright eyes and curious nature. Both parents are doing a wonderful job, with Juanito taking on his important role as primary caregiver, carrying Poppy closely while Izzy provides milk and keeps a watchful eye on her growing infant.
Coppery titi monkeys are small monkeys native to the rainforests of South America, particularly in Peru, Brazil and Colombia. They’re known for their striking copper-red fur, long fluffy tails and strong family bonds — forming lifelong monogamous pairs and living in close-knit family groups made up of parents and their young. They spend most of their lives in the trees, moving through the canopy in search of fruit, leaves, flowers, seeds and insects, and they communicate using a variety of soft calls and duets.
Coppery titi monkeys can live for over 20 years, and while they are currently listed as a species of Least Concern, their rainforest habitats are increasingly under threat from deforestation. Poppy is growing stronger each day and beginning to explore her surroundings under the careful watch of Izzy and Juanito, and you may be lucky enough to spot her clinging tightly to her dad as the family moves through their habitat. We look forward to sharing more updates as she continues her exciting journey here at Banham Zoo!
